  • What types of businesses are best suited for Energia Ventures?
    We are looking for companies transforming energy, cleantech, cybersecurity, AI and the smart grid system. Companies that are creating hardware, software, and/or services that empower these industries are eligible to apply.
  • Can I apply if our company or founders are not from Canada?
    Yes. Anyone from anywhere can apply. You do have to be legally in Canada during the program, however.
  • How do I apply?
    Applications for Energia Ventures are handled through our F6S page.
  • What kind of mentors will be available?
    We have great connections with legal experts, experienced entrepreneurs, angel investors, venture capitalists, industry executives, and a variety of others. We can also find you the right person if you need help with a specific issue.
  • Will all of the mentors come from UNB?
    No. Some will be linked to the university, but we have great connections off-campus from our global network.
  • What is the timeframe for this program?
    Energia Ventures runs two cohorts each calendar year. The first cohort runs February to April, and the 2 second cohort runs October to December.
  • How does the application process work?
    The application process is online here and is comprised of a few questions about your company and team, as well as a video giving a brief overview of your business, and another video introducing us to your team. Applications will be reviewed following our deadline, and then we will begin to contact applicants to schedule interviews.
  • When is the demo day and who will be invited?
    Energia Ventures has a strong network of industry leaders, investors, venture capitalists, and press who will be invited to a private demo day in Fredericton. The demo day for cohort 4 will be held in the last week of November.
  • What is a typical day like for founders at Energia Ventures?
    A typical day will consist of group sessions as well as one-on-one mentor meetings. Group sesssions might include pitch practices, sessions on topics such as communications, finance, sales, marketing, and more. Days will be busy, as founders are also expected to do the necessary work on their companies and products as well.
  • What resources does Energia Ventures provide?
    We provide access to relevant executives, key decision makers, and mentors. We also provide seed funding, workspace, access to labs or prototyping equipment, and more.
  • Where is Energia Ventures located?
    We are located in downtown Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada. We also have offices and access to space on the University of New Brunswick campus, should it be needed. Learn a little more about Fredericton on our location page here.
  • Do companies that participate in Energia Ventures have to stay in Fredericton after the demo day?
    No. You're free to move wherever you like after the program, but we hope that you'll develop some connections in the city that encourage you to stay.
  • How detailed does my idea need to be in the application?
    Not too detailed. We ask you to describe the market opportunity, your team, the idea in broad strokes, and how you plan to execute it. We may ask you to elaborate in initial interviews.
  • Will information in my application be treated as confidential?
    Please don't submit any trade secrets or business plans. Your application will be considered non-confidential, though we don't post anything from applications publicly.
  • Does Energia Ventures own the IP developed by my company during the program?
    No. IP developed by a participating company belongs to that companies.
